Reading Club by Miss Hansbury

Our NWP Reading Club is available at the moment to KS2. The sessions are split into Lower KS2 and Upper KS2. Our club takes place during lunchtimes on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. Each half-term we focus on a book that is interesting, engaging and age-appropriate. Also, the children in the club change every half-term, so everyone can get a chance!

In Spring 2, Year 3 and 4 looked at The Sheep-Pig by Dick King-Smith. Year 5 and 6 looked at The Nowhere Emporium by Ross McKenzie. Each club did different activities based on a chapter that had been sent home to read over the week. We start our session by discussing the chapter we have read, how we felt about it and any discoveries we made, such as new characters or plot lines. We then zone in on a part of the chapter and do an activity based on it. For example, Year 3 and 4 wrote about a dream they have that seems impossible just like Babe's dream of becoming a sheep-dog. Another example is that Year 5 and 6 looked at a chapter where a young boy was deemed dangerous, but he had a magical power; we then wrote down what our magical power would be if we had one.
