School Readiness
Is your child as prepared as they can be to start primary school?
Starting school is an exciting milestone, and being “school ready” helps children settle in happily and confidently. School readiness is about more than just academic skills - it includes independence, communication, social skills, and emotional wellbeing. On this page, you’ll find helpful advice and simple tips to support your child as they prepare for their first days at school, ensuring they feel confident, capable, and ready to learn.

SEND
We recognise that some children may not be fully school ready due to their individual needs, and we are committed to supporting every child as they begin their journey with us. We encourage you to work closely with your child’s nursery, doctor, and health visitor to ensure the right support is in place. You are also welcome to contact our SENCo, Holly Lane, who can help support a smooth and positive transition into school. Our SENCo will also liaise with local nurseries to ensure we have a clear understanding of each child’s needs and can provide the best possible support from the very start.
Potty Training
Being potty trained is an important part of helping your child feel confident and independent when they start school. Recent research shows that around 1 in 4 children now begin Reception not fully toilet trained, and this number has been rising in recent years . While every child develops at their own pace, being able to use the toilet independently helps them settle more easily, take part in learning, and feel comfortable in the school environment. Below you’ll find a helpful guide and links to support you and your child with potty training before they start school.
