The 3 'I's (Intent, Implementation, Impact) and Geography policy
This document defines our vision for geography: what we intend for our children to know (substantive knowledge of places and processes), how we ensure high-quality teaching of geographical skills (disciplinary knowledge), and the positive impact this has on their spatial awareness and understanding of global issues by the time they leave Newton Westpark.
Our Progression Map clearly shows the step-by-step journey of learning from Year 1 to Year 6. It ensures that knowledge of locational facts, human and physical features, and fieldwork skills are taught sequentially, allowing pupils to draw meaningful connections across different places.
This plan details the specific units and topics covered in Geography throughout the academic year for every class. It ensures comprehensive coverage of the National Curriculum's required content.
This link confirms that our Geography curriculum is fully compliant with the statutory requirements and ambitious aims of the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2.
At Newton Westpark, we are proud of our diverse school community, with pupils from many countries, nationalities, and backgrounds. This diversity is used to enrich our geography curriculum, helping pupils understand the world, respect differences, and see themselves as part of a local and wider global community.
