Robins have had a wonderful day with a real pirate!! We found out lots of facts and information about a day in the life of a pirate. There was lots of games, singing, fun and laughter. We ended with a pirate story and the children getting a piece of treasure. And at the end of it we had lots of tired little pirates. 😀😀😀
We were thrillled to see Leigh Centurion’s Jamie Acton at our school yesterday. He brought in the Challenge Cup to show us all and answered questions about his upcoming game against the Salford Red Devils this Friday. We all wish him and the mighty Centurions the best of luck.
This week, builders from Keepmoat Homes came to teach KS2 about building site safety. We learned about how dangerous building sites can be and why we should never play on them. We also learned about the equipment and safety gear that builders use and wear to stay safe when working. Some of our year 6 children had the opportunity to try some of the equipment on. Year four have had a fantastic day today with Del. Del came to visit us to tech us more about the Tudors. We write with quills and ink, handled Tudor artefacts, dressed as rich and poor Tudors, learned Tudor etiquette and in the afternoon we learned three Tudor dances and how to play traditional Tudor games. We had a fantastic time and can’t wait to show you what we learned in our class assembly.
Leigh Fire Service visited year 6 this afternoon to discuss keeping safe around Halloween and Bonfire Night. They taught us about the dangers of fireworks, how to use sparklers safely and what to wear around fireworks and bonfires. We learned more about how to keep our home safe – did you know that the fire service can come to your home and do a free home safety check and fit smoke alarms for free? All you have to do is ring 0800 555 815.
Year 6 had a visit from Tony from Time Trips today. He taught us all about Ancient Greek warfare. We learned about the different formations that were used by hoplites and found out more about the Battle of Marathon. We then made shields and helmets and used these to reenact the strategies used by the soldiers. We’ve had lots of fun and learned lots. Please see our pictures below.
Kingfishers had a special visitor this morning … a spaceman! He told us some interesting facts about Neil Armstrong and the moon. He showed us his spacesuit and even let us all try on his helmet. We fired our own rubber rockets aiming to get the highest target and we used different materials to build our own space stations. Look at some of the pictures below from our exciting morning.
Year 5 have been to Hangar 42 at Blackpool Airport to look at World War 2 aircrafts, weapons and clothes. We had so much fun and learned lots of exciting facts about World War 2. We might even know more than Mr Collier now! Read more to see our photos.
Kingfishers had a very special visitor for enrichment week! Miss O’Cleirigh’s horse Bruce came to see them. Miss O’Cleirigh’s friends Jeanette and Emma brought him in a horsebox. Year 3 have been learning more about floristry as part of our World of Work week. This morning, we had a visit from Wigan and Leigh College who kindly brought along carnations for us to learn how to wrap. This afternoon, we had a visit from Howcroft’s Florist who brought lots of flowers with them and taught us how to make bouquets and posies. Our classroom now looks and smells very nice. Thank you very much Wigan and Leigh College and Howcroft’s Florist – we learned lots and have really enjoyed our day being florists. Please have a look at our pictures.
