This week we have been learning all about Remembrance, the children have completed lots of different activities related to this topic. They have all made a poppy using PVA glue and red paint, researched all about Remembrance and created a mind map with lots of different facts. The children did a sunset painting using water colours and then used a template to create a silhouette. It has been a fantastic week. Please look at our pictures below.
Year 3 have been learning about the different jobs inside a hospital. We invited a Sister to come down and talk to the class about her experiences and what she liked to do. We were amazed at the things she did and at how many people she helped in a day.
It was also the 70th birthday of the NHS. We designed our own special birthday cards to take to the hospital.
We then turned our classroom into a hospital and we really enjoyed our bandaging station. At the end we could name 22 different jobs that you would find in a hospital.
Last week was World of Work week in school. Each class looked at a different job and on Friday we changed our classrooms into the places of work.
Reception – Architects
Year 1 – Post Office
Year 2 – Cafe
Year 3 – Hospitals
Year 4 – Dentists
Year 5 – Emergency Services
Year 6 – Lawyers
Year 5 have turned their classroom into the Emergency Services this week. They have learned all about police officers, paramedics, firefighters and coast guards. We were very lucky to have visits off the police and paramedics but unfortunately the fire service couldn’t make an appearance as they are very busy at the moment! We have learned lots of important things about how to react in emergencies, including how to put an unconcious person in the recovery position. Take a look!
Today year 5 were shocked to find a crime scene on the playground. We worked hard to find all of the evidence to work out which suspect attacked Miss Cliff in order to take charge of the KS2 Performance! We even had a visit from the police to support us in our investigation. Our year 5 CSI team have worked very hard to narrow it down to one prime suspect. We analysed finger prints, measured footprints, interviewed suspects and searched the area of the crime scene for crucial evidence. Who do you think it is?

For our enrichment week this term, we have been doing lots of work based around the book My Name is not Refugee by Kate Milner. We have learned about the different push and pull factors that make someone want to or have to leave their country and we looked at the negative and positive emotions a person would feel when leaving their home in search for a better life. In the book, the little boy has to pack just some of his belongings into a back bac; we looked at what we would take and why. Please have a look at some of our work below.
We had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day. All of the staff and children looked excellent. Please look at our pictures below.
This week during Enrichment Week, Kingfishers have been learning about Roald Dahl and Helen Sharman. Did you know Roald Dahl use to be a fighter pilot before he became a writer? Did you know Helen Sharman was the first British astronaut to fly in space? We have really enjoyed producing lots of work across the curriculum around these two people and creating our display in the hall this afternoon. Have a look at our science pictures below where we had to investigate which paper was the best for Roald Dahl to write on. It had to look nice, be strong and be easy to fold to make lines. Other pictures also show the children making their own Mir Space Station which Helen Sharman flew to space on in 1991.
For our enrichment week this term, each class has been learning more about a famous British man and woman. We have produced lots of fantastic work which we shared in the hall on Friday afternoon. Please have a look at our boards below.
As part of our enrichment week on famous British people, Year 6 have been learning more about William Shakespeare and J K Rowling. We have researched their lives and wrote biographies, created sketches and explored the work of the writers. We read Romeo and Juliet and recreated the story in the style of J K Rowling. We then created story boards. We have had a fantastic week!
