Exploring Friction

Today in Year 5 we have carried out some investigations to get us thinking about frictions. Our first investigation involved over-leafing books so that they stuck together. Have a look at our pictures!

The books seemed to ‘stick’ together because there was lots of friction between the pages.

We did a second investigation that would help us understand what ‘not a lot of friction’ feels like. We poured oil over jelly cubes and used pencils to try and lift them out of the bowl. We found this very tricky as the cubes were slipping and sliding due to the lack of friction.
