A busy November in Robins

We have been up to lots of exciting things in Robins over the last month including our first school trip to Skipton Castle where we had lots of fun and found out more information about castles. We also enjoyed the wellbeing fortnight. We tried lots of new activities such as yoga, meditation, mindful walks outdoors and got to taste and make a range of healthy snacks. We also had our first stay and play session for the Robins parents and it was very successful. The focus was on writing and everyone really enjoyed themselves. We are now looking forward to a very busy December and all the fun Christmas activities 🎅🏻☃️

In Science, we have been looking at rocks and soils. In Geography, we have been locating different Earthquakes that have happened around the world. We made Diva Lamps in RE. We had 2 weeks working on Mental Health and Wellbeing, we completed lots of different activities relating to this topic. Please see our pictures below.

Year 1 – Exciting start to the half term.

What an exciting couple of weeks it has been in Kingfishers! We had a wonderful trip out to Smithills Farm and linked this to our literacy lessons. We have been learning how to write letters and recently wrote a letter to Smithills thanking them for our amazing trip. In math’s we have been learning about addition and how we can add two numbers to find out how many there are all together.

Over the last two weeks we have also been learning all about health and well being. We have took parts in lots of amazing activities such as mindfulness meditation, yoga,  healthy eating classes and many, many more. We can’t wait to see what the rest of this half term is gong to bring!

October in Year 2

We have had another fun month in Year 2.
We have been working on our 10 and 5 times tables and our spelling of common exception words. In Literacy we have read the enchanted faraway tree and created our own lands. We then made our own versions of google buns and pop cakes and enjoyed them for reward time. We enjoyed our class trip to Bolton ERC and went pond dipping and located many different habitats. We can’t wait to see what fun we will have in November!

October in Year 4

Year 4 have been busy learning lots of new things.

The children enjoyed going on a minibeast hunt around the school building. They were fascinated to find a range of different creatures living in the school grounds and particularly enjoyed digging in mud!

We had a visit from the road safety team who talked to us about keeping safe on the roads, particularly as it is getting darker outside much earlier.

The children enjoyed writing letters to Mrs Whiting based on the class text ‘The Lost Thing.’ They have also produced some lovely adventure stories.

We are all looking forward to our class trip to Chester in a few weeks time.

October in Year 3

We have had a great October in Year 3 and the children have been working very hard in all subjects.

This week we have had a very busy week with a road safety workshop and a trip to Southport Eco Centre. In the road safety workshop we learnt all about how we should behave near a road and the steps we should take to cross the road safely. At Southport Eco Centre, we learnt all about Volcanoes and Earthquakes and completed lots of interactive activities about these topics. We all had a great day and can’t wait to start learning more about Earthquakes and Volcanoes in our Geography lessons.

Have a look at our pictures below.

Robins had fun making pumpkin soup.

The Robins had lots of fun making pumpkin soup. We decided to look at pumpkins because it is Autumn time. We looked at and felt the inside of the pumpkin then talked about how it felt. We then used the flesh to make the soup and talked about what other ingredients we needed to make our soup. When it was ready we tasted it and then took some home.

October in Year 6

We have been very busy throughout October in Year 6. We finished our topic on the Ancient Greeks – we now know lots about the gods and goddesses, Spartan warriors, the Olympics and we also examined evidence to decide whether or not the Trojan War was factual, a historical legend or a myth. We have started our new geography topic and have used maps to locate the Silk Road.

In science, we made colour spectrums to investigate the fact that light is made up of all of the colours of the rainbow. We also carried out an investigation into what would happen to the size of a shadow when the distance from the light source changes. In art, we created self portraits after learning all about scale and proportion and sketching techniques.

We have been working very hard in all of our subjects and having lots of fun!

Please see our pictures below.

First Half Term in Year 1

What a wonderful first half term we have had in year 1. Everyone has adjusted brilliantly to life as a Kingfisher and we would like to tell you all about our learning. In Math’s we have been learning how to represent numbers up to 10. We can now recognize words, numbers, concrete representations and we have even started to add them together! In Literacy, we have been retelling a familiar story focusing on the adventures of Pinocchio. This led us on our own little adventure as we braved the stormy seas on the pirate ship and jumped into deep, dark water. In Science we have been learning all about the human body and how different parts relate to our key senses. This led into our first investigation on how our senses can be impaired.

In Geography we have been discovering where our food comes from and why farming is so important. For PSHE we have been learning about our feelings and how we can express ourselves. In R.E we have been discovering what it means to belong and how even though we are all special and unique, we belong to many different groups. Finally, in P.E we have been working on developing our basic skills and foundations that we can build upon later in the year.

Please take a look at the pictures below.

We have been interested in our new history topic of The British Empire- the pupils are amazed to find out that “the sun never set on the Empire”.
