Year 6 have jad a fantastic day at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. We were able to explore the exhibitions and experiment gallery and carried out a workshop on the Wonder of Light – please look at our pictures below.
Owls have worked so hard in this first half term so and have settled in brilliantly. They have enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London topic and have done lots of acting and artwork about it. In science, they are learning about different materials and their properties. They have been working hard on addition and subtraction in maths and doing some amazing writing about a dragon during literacy. Please see the pictures below from their first few weeks: Continue reading “Superstar Owls!”
This week in Year 3 we went on our school trip to Bolton Museum. The children stepped back in time to the time of the Ancient Egyptians. We made a human timeline, explored Egyptian artefacts, learnt about Mummification, dressed up as an Egyptian, found the oldest object from Egypt and watched a short movie. We had a fantastic day and enjoyed learning all about Egypt. Please see our pictures below.
Thank you to everyone who baked/bought cakes for our coffee morning and for everyone who came – we raised over £200 for Macmillan! Please see our pictures below.
This week, in science, we investigated the effects of refraction. Refraction is the bending of light as it passes from one transparent substance into another. We investigated what happened to an arrow and other pictures when we looked at it through a glass of water .
This week in Science we have been learning about the eat well plate and the different food groups. The children worked in groups and made their own eat well plate. They did a fantastic job of sorting the foods into the correct food groups. Please see our pictures below.
Last week we began our new topic in Science on habitats. We explored the school grounds to see how many habitats we could discover. We found lots of insects and they all had different habitats. Here are some examples of what we found.
We had an excellent day at out taster day at The Westleigh School. We had 4 different lessons, we got to ask lots of questions and it was a good insight to what the school is like. Please see our pictures below.
We have made such a good start to the school year! We have already learned lots and we are doing great with our extra responsibilities and being good role models for the other children.
In science, we learned about how we see things. We then modeled this to the class to show our understanding. Please see our pictures below.
Year 3 have been learning about the different jobs inside a hospital. We invited a Sister to come down and talk to the class about her experiences and what she liked to do. We were amazed at the things she did and at how many people she helped in a day.
It was also the 70th birthday of the NHS. We designed our own special birthday cards to take to the hospital.
We then turned our classroom into a hospital and we really enjoyed our bandaging station. At the end we could name 22 different jobs that you would find in a hospital.
