Year 2 Owls

Welcome to the Year 2 section of our website. Our class is called Owls. We have 29 children in our class, 15 boys and 14 girls. Our Class Teacher is called Miss Grimshaw and our Teaching Assistants are Miss Lorna, Miss Jo and Miss Burton.

We are very excited to investigate our topic this term: India. We will look at houses, clothes, food, people etc in India and compare and contrast these to the UK.

Some of the things we will be learning this term are:

  • Literacy – Muddles and Mishaps, Play scripts, Poetry and non-fiction texts.
  • Numeracy - Counting, Partitioning and Calculating, Securing Number Facts and Understanding Shape, Handling Data and Measures, Identifying Relationships.
  • Science – Plants and Planting.
  • Topic – India in comparison to the UK.
  • Art – Printing, collages and evaluating.
  • ICT – detectives (clues) and Zoologists (collecting data about bugs).
  • PE – Basic skills and team games.

  • Children will bring home their reading books and reading diaries daily. I would appreciate if you could please encourage your child to read at home.
  • Homework will be given out every week on a Friday afternoon and should be brought back to school on the following Monday morning. This will normally be a short Literacy or Numeracy task that should not take more than 30 minutes to complete.
  • A half term project will be set for children to complete based on a topic or genre we are covering in class.
  • As part of their phonics learning, the children will also bring home spellings on Monday to learn at home during the week for a spelling test on Friday.
  • Please ensure PE kits are in schools on all days.

If anyone has any questions at any point throughout the year, please feel free to come and speak to me.

Many thanks, Miss Grimshaw.
