Owls have been inspired by our class story The Building Boy this week. They have worked very hard on their writing and have used synonyms to improve their work. In art they have learnt about Lowry and experimented with creating their own matchstick figures. During science the Owls have been learning about animals including humans and found out about what they need to survive. We discussed the difference between something you need vs something you want.
This morning the children arrived at school to discover that the dinosaur egg that we had been looking after for the past two weeks had finally hatched. It had happened overnight while there was no one around!!! We found out that the T-Rex had been having fun in our classroom. He had been playing with the train track, knocked over some of our chairs, left lots of footprints and sent us a letter to say thank you for looking after him in his egg. We had lots of fun searching the classroom to see where he had gone. When we read the letter we found out that T-Rex had gone to find his dinosaur family and friends. We all did lots of fantastic writing about the day the Dinosaur Egg hatched in the Robins. 😀😀😀😀😀
In science, year 6 have been learning about the circulatory system. On Tuesday, we played a group game where we had to memorise the steps in the circulatory process which were displayed around the classroom. The scribe in our group then had to write each step that we had memorised down and we had to order the statements. The first group to do this won.
We had lots of fun whilst learning about what happens every time our heart beats.
Year 2 Owls have had a really busy start to the New Year. We’ve been multiplying in Maths, learning spellings, improving our handwriting and much more. In Art we have found out about Lowry and enjoyed singing the Matchstalk Men song.
Harold the giraffe helped us to learn about being healthy and feelings in the Life Education caravan.
Our new book in English is called the Building Boy and it’s helping us with our writing.well done everyone. 😊
We have had a very busy week in year 6.
On Monday morning, we started reading our new book Kensuke’s Kingdom which we are really enjoying already. In the afternoon, we all went swimming and were very tired afterwards.
We have started our new topic on rainforests around the world this week and we have learned how important rainforests are to us.
Our after school booster club started on Monday and lots of us have already been working very hard.
We were very lucky on Friday as we watched a pantomime in our school hall. It was a performance of Robin Hood and we really enjoyed it!
We have been identifying and sorting rocks all week. We have found out that there are 3 types: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. We have tested their properties and have have found rocks that are porous (allows water to pass through) and even found rocks that float. We have sketched them and written about them in our descriptive writing. We will be writing about fossils next.
We enjoyed our Stone Age Workshop and found out lots of things about how people lived. We looked at artefacts, foods and clothing. We are looking forward to investigating and writing our own stories.
This week we have been looking at expressing emotions in art. We discussed how colour can reflect mood. We looked at primary and secondary colours and experimented with making our own colours to show emotion and moods. Take a look at our experimentation.
Owls enjoyed some freshly baked bread today. It took 3 hours to cook in a bread machine. We wonder how long Thomas Farryner’s loaves took to bake in Pudding Lane? And although the fire alarm went off this afternoon it wasn’t our bread that caused it! It was just a practice. 😀😀
This afternoon Year 5 have applied for our class jobs for this term. The applications went through a selection process and then we voted anonymously for child A, B, C or D. Read more to see who was successful!
We have spent the whole day today doing Science! We began the day by setting up our experiment looking at how different liquids affect teeth. We placed hard boiled eggs in plastic cups and submerged them with different liquids. We used coke, Diet Coke, water, sparkling water, orange juice, vinegar, black currant cordial and lucozade. We will leave the eggs for 24 hours and then observe any changes.
Next we looked at the digestive system. We worked in groups to try and draw the system and label it. Then we created poo! This helped us understand what happens to the food we eat and what the digestive process is.
After that we used a disclosing tablet to identify where plaque gathers on our teeth. We had fun trying to scrub it off and had purple tongues for the whole afternoon.
