Year 1 and 2 have had a fantastic day at the KS1 Leigh Games at Leigh Sports Village today. Year 1 competed in Archery and Year 2 competed in cricket. We have been practising these skills in our PE lessons and they have really paid off. Year 1 earned a certificate for the school which showed the most passion and Year 2 earned gold and silver medals and a trophy. Have a look at Year 1’s pictures below and pictures of Year 2 will be on our school Facebook page.
Year 6 had such a fantastic time on this year’s residential to Ilam Hall. We did lots of activities including orienteering, making rockets, a guided walk to Dovedale stepping stones, team building activities, a minibeast hunt and habitat building. All of the children were so well behaved and we really enjoyed it. Please have a look at our pictures below.
As an introduction to our new topic on evolution and inheritance, we looked at the evolution of biscuits. Each pair had 6 biscuits and we had to put them in order of when we thought they were invented based on how they changed each time e.g. flavour, colour , layers and texture. We then related this to the theory of evolution and how other species have changed over time.
Today, year 5 were very lucky to have a Mayan Warrior join them for the day. We have learned lots of interesting facts about the Mayans and their lifestyle. We learned about their costumes, Gods, death rituals, football games, food and we even had a Mayan maths lesson. All of the children had the opportunity to handle aretfacts and role play Mayan scenes involving the games and death rituals. We have thoroughly enjoyed the day! Take a look at our photos!
Owls have had so much fun learning about the royal wedding this week. They even did some acting and had a English tea party.
Today we all came to school wearing red, white and blue in celebration of the royal wedding. All of the classes have enjoyed learning about the royal wedding and have been very excited to take part in lots of activities. We wish Prince Harry and Meghan Markle the best of luck on their big day!
As our topic is the Mayans and they originate from Mexico, we thought it would be a great opportunity to try Mexican food. We tried nachos with guacomole and salsa, chorizo, sweet potato and tortillas. Have a look at the photos! Continue reading “Mexican Food Tasting in Year 5”
